DAYSDay 1
Pick up from train station in Luoyang. First visit the Longmen Grottoes. It is situated on the Yihe River bank, about 12 kilometers from Luoyang city. It is one of the three most valuable Buddhist cave and rock carvings in China. The grottoes were first carved during the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534), when the rulers relocated their capital from Datong to Luoyang at the end of the 5th century. The Longmen Grottoes were listed as a World Heritage Site in Nov, 2000.
After lunch, continue to visit Luoyang Museum. The Luoyang Museum is a city-level historical museum of China. The first floor is dedicated to the basic exhibition depicting the Heluo Civilization (Luoyang¡¯s history and culture). The second floor is mainly designed for 7 exhibition rooms for 7 themed exhibitions ¨C Exhibition of Calligraphy and Painting, Exhibition of Ancient Treaure of Luoyang, Exhibition of pottery figurines of Han and Tang dynasties, Exhibition of tri-colored earthen wares of Tang Dynasty, Exhibition of Qing Imperial cultural relics and Exhibition of ancient fresco Art.
The head to the White Horse Temple. The White Horse Temple in Luoyang is the first Buddhist temple in China, the important cradle of Chins¡¯s buddhism, which was introduced into China from India in 68AD in Eastern Han Dynasty (25 AD ¨C 220 AD) , the same year when the white horse temple was built. Stay overnight in Luoyang.
Day 02
Luoyang - Shaolin - Luoyang
Pick up from your hotel in Luoyang. Have one day excursion tour to the Shaolin Temple. Shaolin Temple is located in the Songshan Mountains, 80 km south-east of Luoyang.
Shaolin Temple was established in 495AD by Emperor Xiaowen in Beiwei Dynasty for the purpose of housing the famous Indian monk, Batuo, who came to Luoyang, the ancient capital for spreading Buddhism at that period. Emperor Xiaowen was a dedicated believer of Buddhism so he decided to construct the temple at the foot of the Songshan Mountains to welcome Batuo, who translated many Buddhist documents and had several hundred followers there.
Outside the temple and move on to the next big attraction ¨C Pagoda Forest, a graveyard for the monks through the ages.
The Kung Fu Show is performed by the professinal performance team from Shaolin Tagou Kung Fu School. Shaolin Kung fu is the most influential martial arts schools in China. In the less than half performance, you will see ¡°Shaolin Boxing¡± and ¡°Shaolin Stick¡± typical of Shaolin Kungfu.
At the end of the tour, transferred back to Luoyang.
